Lions District 27-D2 Cabinet Meeting

January 31, 2010

Cabinet members met at the Oakdale Community Hall at noon. Pledge was led by DG Kathy and invocation by PDG Brian Overturf.  Meal followed, with meeting brought to order at 12:00pm by DG Kathy.

The minutes of the October 18th cabinet meeting were approved as published on a motion by PDG Rowe, seconded by RC Paulson. The treasurer’s report was presented by CST Koranda and submitted for audit on an approved motion by PDG Overturf, seconded by PDG Mike Kelley.

A motion by PDG Hauser, second by ZC Bertelsen to absorb the first half dues of the Barre-Coed Lions Club due to an internal club situation was approved.  PDG’s Thompson and Ender were appointed by DG Kathy as the club’s guiding lions. 

DG encouraged all clubs to get involved with the Boy Scouts on their 100th anniversary.  See VDG Nelson to participate in Lions Leadership training on February 27th.  The Lions state office will be moved to the Camp by October of this year. Lions in Sight ads have been running, and a survey on participation will be forthcoming to clubs. 

LADP Myrna Kelley reported all clubs doing well, and that $1000 raffle profits had been donated to the nature center at Lions Camp. District Convention is 4/10 in Norwalk. 

All Region and Zone chairmen present gave positive reports on club activities.  Potential problem clubs in Wilton and Barrie show improved status. 

WLF Directors Holthaus and Hanson reported camp applications and raffle tickets (prizes up and ticket price down) are in circulation.  Lion’s license plate is close to a reality.  A resolution to repair roofs at camp will be on State Convention ballot. A Walmart Vision Center agreement has been reached, but glasses collected will go to Indiana.  Audit will be held this month.  Counselor-in-training and Ambassador programs are being revived.  Nurses are needed at camp.  Dates to remember:  work day is 4/24, Pride shoot is 6/12,  Birch-Sturm golf is 7/17, and open house is set for 9/18. 

USA/Canada Forum in Milwaukee on 9/23-25 is looking for up to 400 volunteers.  ID Art Marson presented 5 club banner patches to those who have contributed toward the effort.  A raffle to support the Forum is ongoing. 

Curling Chairman Bertelsen reported a successful bonspiel, with 3 District clubs participating, with a Tomah team winning the 4th event. 

Diabetes Chairs Olson and Nauman reported awareness day of 3/23.  Clubs must apply for involvement banner patch.  Three DVD programs are available for club meetings. 

Pin Chair Overturf turned in $174.00, and plans to actively sell pins at the convention.

Elections Chair Wolf reported delegate cards and forms have been mailed.  No convention site or 2nd VDG on ballot, and write-ins must have proper paperwork in hand. 

Environment Chair Greene reported deer hide collections were down approximately 200. 

Hearing Chair Greene reported 5 approved applications.  Aides and money needed. 

Eye Bank Chair Hauser reported that Sue Sabin continues as interim director.  The building loan has been re-negotiated.  The capital campaign is ongoing.  The annual meeting will be held on 8/31 in Middleton.

Membership Chair Ender stated a -2 change thus far, and encouraged club chairmen to attend officer training. 

ZC Dalberg informed all that a mission to Mexico is upcoming February 11th to 15th.

LCIF Chair Mocco reported $55,000 of $70,000 District CSFII donations made.  Donations for Haiti are actively being sought. 

Leader Dog Chair Williams is promoting buy-a-brick campaign at zone meetings. 

Leadership Chair Osinski announced a TTT training, and that 12 Lions in the District are now certified guiding Lions.  All clubs should start election procedures this month. 

Peace Poster Chair Thompson reported that 3 district clubs had participated in 2009, and that 2010 kits are now available through Lions International. 

PDG Thompson announced the following Club Officer Training sessions:  4/20 in New Lisbon, 4/22 in Richland Center, and 4/27 in LaCrosse. 

Resolutions Chair Stastny reported no resolutions at District Convention, and 2 regarding changes in convention committee at the State Convention.  Revisions in the Multiple District Policy Manual are underway.

Plans for the State Convention are on track.  Features include golf at Century World, a Lions Camp bus, an $8 Lioness hospitality night, and a wild game feed.  Get rooms!! 

PR Chair Pat Kennedy noted newspaper deadline of 40 days prior to the 1st of the month. 

 A motion to donate $150 to American Cancer Society Walk in honor of three cabinet members was made by PDG Kelley, seconded by PDG Overturf.  Motion carried.

VDG Nelson reported 2010-11 cabinet is being worked on, with a 1st cabinet meeting set for 8/22 in Elroy.  He urged getting election results to him ASAP. 

Raffle proceeds of $91.00 were turned over to CST Koranda.

Lions District 27-D2 Cabinet Meeting

October 18, 2009

Cabinet members met at the Warrens Lions Log Building at noon. Pledge was led by DG Kathy, invocation by PDG Brian Overturf and song by VDG Don Nelson. Meal followed, with meeting brought to order at 12:35pm.

The minutes of the August 2nd cabinet meeting were approved as published on a motion by RC Sue Paulson, second by Lion Eric Holthaus. The treasurer's report was presented by CST Koranda and submitted for audit on a motion by PDG Norm Rowe, second by PDG Mike Kelley.

Motion by PDG John Hanson to donate $500.00 to the Milwaukee Forum died due to lack of a second. DG Kathy reported the need of 400 volunteers and cash donations.

DG Kathy reported on several topics. The Mid-Winter Conference is December 5th with many topics to be discussed. Fee for the event is $20.00. The Emerging Lions Institute still has room for anyone wishing to participate. VDG's will be setting up a District GMT meeting for club presidents and membership chairmen. The MERLOW team has officially adopted a "W" for women in Lionism. State directories are available on line free, or in print for a fee. Matching public relation grants are available to clubs. A new book from LCIF is available for $29.95 plus shipping. She further stressed the need for clubs to be informed on new raffle laws, the policy & procedure manual, and the tax laws. 

The District Convention will be at the Wintergreen Resort in Lake Delton on February 12, 2010. A motion by PDG Overturf, seconded by Lion Holthaus to allow a $7.00 registration fee to be charged was approved.                            

Lioness District Affiliate President Myrna Kelley reported on the community activities of the 10 Lioness Clubs and their over 200 members. She also reviewed the giving of all Wisconsin Lioness Clubs.

Raffle proceeds of $129.00 were turned over to CST Koranda.

The Region Chairmen and Zone Chairmen gave oral reports on meetings, membership and activities within their clubs. All reports were positive except ZC Bertelsen reported that the Barre-Coed club was having difficulties and a meeting was scheduled to discuss remedies for their issues.

WLF Directors Hanson and Holthaus and Representative Benjamin reported a successful summer

camping season with over 1400 campers and no major incidents. 86 campers and 2 counselors came from D-2. A workday is planned for October 24th. Raffle profits were approximately $37,000. Customized Lions state license plates are in the works. Open house attendance was down. The District was 5 clubs short of 100% participation, with appreciation awards presented to those zones and regions

which were 100%. PDG's Eric Ender and Norm Rowe are Pride Ambassadors for our District. 

Eye Bank Representative PDG Mauser reported changes in the staff, including Sue working as interim executive director. Both regular and capital campaign donations are needed. The "D”  Districts are currently chairing the facilities committee, with assistance from PDG Kelley and ZC Van Cleef.

Mission to Mexico is requesting an increase to $400.00 for each district's annual contribution. The amount was approved on a motion by PDG Ed Carpenter, seconded by PDG Hanson.

ZC Bertelsen reported the State Bonspiel to be held in Medford. Check newspaper for details.

Diabetes Chairman Doug Olson announced availability of a new DVD and a healthy Halloween contest underway. November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and all related activities should be reported.

Pin chairman Overturf distributed pins and turned in $60.00 from district pin sales. Lion Warren Wolf announced a November 30th deadline for all open district positions/convention. Lion Bud Greene sent in a report stating $50,915 made in 2008 hide collection and D2 goal of 1000.
Lion Marvel Greene sent in a report that two hearing aides have been approved, but money needed. Forum Chairman Thompson reported 130 Wisconsin Lions at Memphis, and 1100 preregistered for 2010.

Leader Dog Chairman Williams reported no donations from 17 clubs last year & encouraged club programs.

Membership Chairman Ender reported net drop of one member so far this year, and reviewed total service hours and dollars donated worldwide last year.

Peace Poster Chairman Thompson reported Gays Mills and West Salem Lions were running contests this year. Posters must be turned into DG Kathy by 11/15/09.

Bowling Chairman Jerome reported a successful site inspection of Port Washington. This year's tournament will run from 2/6/09 to 4/25/09. Check newspaper for details.

Technology Chair Lion Charlie Kennedy reported that e-club was available at no charge. A link from the District website and a club template were available for ease of usage.

Youth exchange had a successful camp, with 52 youths from 21 countries participating. VDC3 Nelson stressed returning to a 100% District in WLF donations.

On an approved motion by PDG Carpenter, seconded by Lion Holthaus, Tail Twister Pettersen was fined $4.00 for his absence.

Next meeting is scheduled for 1/31/2010 at the Oakdale Credit Union. Meeting adjourned.
